Guccio Gucci founded Gucci as a leather company in 1921 in Florence, Italy. In 1997, Gucci produced its first timepiece in Switzerland. Today it is one of the world's major fashion houses, designing and producing men's and women's fashions and accessories. Due to their famous brand name and high price, Gucci watches are often replicated and even forged. But if you know what to look for, you should be able to tell whether your antique Gucci watch is authentic.
Check the watch's serial number. All Gucci watches are stamped with a serial number on the back. If the watch doesn't have a serial number, it is a fake. Some replicas may have a model number on the back as well, in order to fool potential buyers of antique watches, but an antique dealer or certified Gucci merchant will be able to tell you for sure.
Check any stamps or certifying documents that came with the watch when you purchased it. All Gucci watches come with a booklet, which will provide information about the Gucci watch. All Gucci timepieces are made in Switzerland, unlike other Gucci products, which are made in Italy. If your watch comes with information or a stamp that reads 'Made in Italy,' your watch is a fake. All early Gucci watches, just like their modern counterparts, will read 'Swiss Made' on the clock hands.
Contact a jeweller at a Gucci store, a certified Gucci merchant or professional jeweller. You can find a list of all Gucci stores on the Gucci website's store locator. Take your antique watch into Gucci or jewellery store. A jeweller or appraiser at the store will be able to verify that the watch and its model number are correct and the watch is authentic.

Jump to Step 9- Look for a Gucci bag serial number. - Step 1 – View the bag for fake Gucci details. For Gucci purses sold on Ebay or via other online retailers, look for closeup pictures of the GG logo. Look for a leather tab with the style/ serial number imprinted on the back of the tab and the words “Gucci Made in Italy” located inside the bag. The Gucci model and serial number is a symbol of authenticity for the company's products, and every genuine Gucci wallet, watch and purse comes with a 10- to 13-digit model and serial number located on the item.

- Never purchase a Gucci watch from any individual, either in a traditional store or an online merchant, without having verification that the watch is an original watch. The merchant should provide clear pictures of the watch and the model number, if you are buying from an online merchant. The merchant should also have a certified letter from a jeweller or appraiser who confirms that the watch is authentic.
- Keep in mind that Gucci watches only date back to 1997. So while they may be 'antiques' with regards to the Gucci company, they are not antiques in a traditional sense. If someone approaches you with a very old looking watch, or tells you that it was made in the 1930s, for example, it cannot be a Gucci watch.
- Never purchase a Gucci watch from a street dealer or vendor. These watches are almost never authentic. In some countries, such as Italy, if you are caught purchasing a fake or replica product, such as a Gucci watch, you can face thousands of dollars in fines.
